Staff Audiologist – Mobile Community Health

Organization: Access to Better Hearing Foundation (ABHF)

Location: Chicagoland Area (On-site travel to regional skilled nursing facilities required daily)

Position Type: Full-Time

About ABHF: Purpose Over Profit

At Access to Better Hearing Foundation (ABHF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we believe that hearing healthcare is a human right—not a luxury reserved only for those who can afford private insurance.

Every day, thousands of low-income seniors and Medicaid recipients living in skilled nursing facilities across Chicagoland experience isolation, cognitive decline, and loss of dignity simply because they lack access to quality hearing care. We exist to change that.

We are seeking two compassionate, driven Audiologists who are motivated by impact rather than sales targets. If you became a clinician to serve human beings first, this mission is for you.

The Reality of the Role: Hands-On, Community-Based Care

This is not a traditional office-based position, nor is it a remote/hybrid role. Our patients cannot come to us—so we go to them.

As an ABHF Audiologist, your workplace is the community. You will spend your days traveling to skilled nursing facilities and long-term care homes across the Chicagoland area, bringing essential diagnostic testing, hearing aid fittings, and ongoing care directly to residents in need.

What to Expect:

  • 100% On-the-Ground Presence: Daily travel between partner nursing homes in the Chicagoland area.
  • Pure Clinical Care: Zero sales quotas, commission pressure, or retail product pushes. Your sole objective is patient well-being and improved quality of life.
  • Support for Travel: To ensure you are fully supported on the road, ABHF provides both mileage reimbursement and a dedicated monthly car maintenance stipend.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations for elderly and Medicaid-eligible residents within nursing home facilities.
  • Select, fit, and dispense hearing aids tailored to patient needs, ensuring proper comfort and usage.
  • Provide cerumen management, earmold impressions, troubleshooting, and routine device maintenance on-site.
  • Collaborate closely with facility staff, nurses, social workers, and family members to integrate hearing healthcare into the patient’s overall care plan.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records adhering to Medicaid and organizational standards.

Qualifications & Mindset

  • Education: Doctor of Audiology (AuD) or Master’s degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current (or eligible for) Audiology License in the State of Illinois.
  • Values: A deep, demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable, low-income, and geriatric populations. You prioritize empathy, patience, and human connection in your daily practice.
  • Mobility: Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and comfort with regular daily driving throughout the Chicagoland region.

Why Join ABHF?

  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Eligible: As a 501(c)(3) non-profit employee, your full-time role qualifies for federal loan forgiveness programs.
  • Direct Impact: See the immediate, life-changing difference your work makes in reconnecting seniors with their loved ones and caregivers.
  • Vehicle & Travel Support: Receive mileage reimbursement plus a monthly vehicle maintenance stipend.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health insurance coverage, paid time off, and professional development support.
